Be Like Me

I beg of you, brethren, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You have done me no wrong;   13 but you know that it was because of a bodily illness that I preached the gospel to you the first time;   14 and that which was a trial to you in my bodily condition you did not despise or loathe, but you received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus Himself.   15 Where then is that sense of blessing you had? For I bear you witness that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.   16 So have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?   17 They eagerly seek you, not commendably, but they wish to shut you out so that you will seek them.   18 But it is good always to be eagerly sought in a commendable manner, and not only when I am present with you.   19 My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you–   20 but I could wish to be present with you now and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.” ~ Galatians 4:12-20

Frustration!

However at that time, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those which by nature are no gods. But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again? You observe days and months and seasons and years.  I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored over you in vain.” ~ Galatians 4:8-12

Perfect Timing

“Now I say, as long as the heir is a child, he does not differ at all from a slave although he is owner of everything,   2 but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by the father.   3 So also we, while we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental things of the world.   4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,   5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.   6 Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”   7 Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.” ~ Galatians 4:1-7

Sons of God

“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.   27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.   28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.   29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise.” ~ Galatians 3:26-29

Our Guardian the Law

“But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed.   24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.   25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.   26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.  ” ~ Galatians 3:23-25

The Purpose of the Law

“Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made.   20 Now a mediator is not for one party only; whereas God is only one.   21 Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law.   22 But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.” ~ Galatians 3:19-22

The Promise Keeper

Brethren, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is only a man’s covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it.   16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one, “And to your seed,” that is, Christ.   17 What I am saying is this: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise.   18 For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise.” ~ Galatians 3:15-18

WWAD?

Even so Abraham BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.   7 Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham.   8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “ALL THE NATIONS WILL BE BLESSED IN YOU .”   9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer.” ~ Galatians 3:6-9

Those Foolish Galatians!

“You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?   2 This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?   3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?   4 Did you suffer so many things in vain–if indeed it was in vain?   5 So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?” — Galatians 3:1-5

Crucified with Christ

Galatians 2:17-21: “But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found sinners, is Christ then a minister of sin? May it never be!   18 “For if I rebuild what I have once destroyed, I prove myself to be a transgressor.   19 “For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live to God.   20 “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.   21 “I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”
